The Marketing & Communications Officer has primary responsibilities for ChicagoCAC’s marketing, communications, graphic design and media relations. In this work, s/he conceives of, writes, designs, edits and presents materials representing ChicagoCAC’s mission, programs, fundraising initiatives and community resources to a variety of internal and external audiences through a broad range of media. S/he is responsible for developing and implementing ChicagoCAC’s day-to-day and overall marketing and awareness strategies, ensuring that branding and messaging are implemented consistently throughout all of the organization’s communications.
Develop, manage and implement an annual strategic communications plan across ChicagoCAC’s website, printed materials, email marketing, social media channels, videos, fundraising appeals, event promotion, advocacy alerts and special marketing campaigns.
Build awareness and ensure stability of ChicagoCAC’s brand in all communications through daily implementation of branding/messaging guidelines.
Analyze, evaluate and report marketing performance for all media and campaigns.
Compile stories, create content and disseminate regular social media content, monthly e-newsletter and e-blasts.
Support ChicagoCAC’s fundraising events and activities by creating and implementing all marketing, communications and media efforts for fundraising, awareness-building and donor cultivation events.
Assist with fundraising and government relations activities, such as annual appeals, advocacy alerts and special events. Activities can include designing, writing and/or editing print and electronic materials.
Coordinate ChicagoCAC’s response to media inquiries on an as-needed basis; provide/facilitate media training for staff and volunteer spokespeople as needed.
Write and pitch stories to local and regional media highlighting specific activities of ChicagoCAC, our partners, board members and volunteers.
Work with staff, board members, committees and other volunteers on internal and external communications, marketing and events.
Assist in designing and producing internal materials, as needed.
Attend all major fundraising events. Attend other events, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, media relations, development, advancement and/or external affairs. Non-profit experience preferred. Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, graphic design skills and an ability to work well with others. Should be comfortable functioning independently and as a member of a team. Must meet deadlines reliably and enjoy working on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Proficiency in MS Office is required. Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, Raiser’s Edge and WordPress is preferred
